Prayer for Self-Harm

Psalm 139:14

I am uniquely created with great care and significance, reflecting the beauty of God's handiwork.

— Psalm 139:14

Heavenly Father, I come before You, acknowledging my struggles and the pain that sometimes overwhelms my heart. I thank You for creating me with intention and love. In moments of despair, help me to remember that I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Guide me to seek comfort in Your presence rather than in harmful choices. Lord, when darkness creeps into my thoughts, illuminate my path with Your grace and remind me of my worth in Your eyes. Surround me with Your love and the support of those who care for me. Teach me to find strength in prayer and to lean on You when I feel weak. Help me to embrace my identity in Christ, knowing that I am valued and cherished. May I turn to You in my pain and find healing in Your embrace. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.

Self-harm often stems from deep emotional pain and a sense of hopelessness. In these moments, it’s vital to remember that we are made in God's image, endowed with inherent worth and purpose. The Bible teaches us that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, reminding us that we are to treat ourselves with respect and care (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). When we struggle, we can turn to God, who promises to be close to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18). He understands our pain and invites us to cast our burdens on Him, offering solace and strength in our weakness (1 Peter 5:7). In seeking help, whether through prayer, counseling, or community support, we affirm our value and the hope that God provides. Remembering that we are wonderfully made encourages us to choose healing over harm, to embrace our struggles with grace, and to trust in God’s plan for our lives.
