Christ has given various leaders to the church to prepare and equip His people for service, so that we all can grow together in faith and unity, reaching maturity in our understanding of Him.
— Ephesians 4:11-13
The church is not merely a building but a living body comprised of individuals equipped by God for a purpose. In Ephesians, Paul emphasizes the importance of leadership roles within the church, such as apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers, each serving to equip believers for ministry. This equipping is essential for the church to grow in faith and love, fostering a community that reflects Christ’s character. As we engage in prayer for our church, we recognize that our collective spiritual maturity is not solely dependent on our leaders but on every member actively participating in their gifts and calling. We are reminded of the call to unity, as seen in Psalm 133, where the beauty of harmonious relationships is highlighted. When we work together, we build a strong foundation of faith, supporting each other in our walks with God, as indicated in 1 Corinthians 12, which speaks of the interconnectedness of believers. Together, we can fulfill the mission God has placed before us.
