Prayer After Stillbirth

2 Samuel 12:23

I will not bring my child back, but I will one day go to be with him.

— 2 Samuel 12:23

Heavenly Father, in this moment of profound sorrow, I come before You with a heavy heart, seeking solace and understanding. I lift to You the precious soul that we have lost, knowing that while our time together was brief, they are now embraced by Your love and grace. Lord, I trust that though we grieve deeply, this child is at peace in Your eternal care. Help us to find comfort in the promise of Your presence and the hope of reunion one day. May Your comfort surround us and give us strength to heal. Guide us in our mourning, and fill our hearts with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. In our sadness, may we still feel the warmth of Your love, and may our memories of this child be a source of joy as we remember the life they brought into our world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Experiencing the loss of a child through stillbirth is one of the most heart-wrenching trials anyone can face. In these moments, we may feel the weight of sorrow and confusion, yet we can find solace in God's promises. He assures us that our loved ones are safe in His hands, as seen in the story of David and his child. While David mourned deeply, he later found peace in knowing that he would one day be reunited with his son. This teaches us that although death brings grief, it does not have the final word. God understands our pain and invites us to bring our anguish to Him. In times of loss, we can cling to verses like Psalm 34:18, which reminds us that the Lord is close to the brokenhearted, and Matthew 11:28, where Jesus invites us to find rest in Him. Through prayer and the support of our faith community, healing is possible as we navigate this painful journey.
