Prayer for Resentment

Ephesians 4:31-32

Let go of all anger, bitterness, and resentment, and instead, be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other just as God has forgiven you.

— Ephesians 4:31-32

Heavenly Father, I come before You with a heavy heart, burdened by feelings of resentment that have taken root within me. Lord, help me to release this bitterness and anger, for I know that they do not reflect Your love. Teach me to forgive as You have forgiven me, to let go of past hurts, and to embrace kindness and compassion towards those who have wronged me. Fill my heart with Your peace, so that I may see others through Your eyes. Help me to remember that we are all flawed and in need of Your grace. May Your Spirit guide me to respond with love, rather than resentment, and to seek reconciliation, not division. Thank You for Your endless mercy and for the example of Christ, who forgave even in His suffering. In His name, I pray. Amen.

Resentment can be a heavy burden, weighing down our spirits and clouding our hearts. As Christians, we are called to reflect the love and forgiveness of Christ, which means letting go of anger and bitterness. In Ephesians, we are reminded to rid ourselves of these negative emotions and instead embrace kindness, compassion, and forgiveness. This transformation is not merely an act of will; it is a response to the grace we have received. Jesus teaches us that forgiveness is essential to our own healing, echoing the sentiment that we should forgive others just as we have been forgiven. By choosing to release resentment, we open ourselves to the joy of reconciliation and the peace that surpasses understanding. Christ’s example on the cross demonstrates that love triumphs over hurt, and as we strive to embody His teachings, we find freedom from the chains of resentment and a renewed spirit filled with grace and love.
