Forgive each other as the Lord has forgiven you, showing kindness and understanding towards one another.
— Colossians 3:13
Estrangement within families can be one of the most painful experiences we face, as it often stems from unresolved conflict, hurtful words, or past grievances. The Bible teaches us the importance of forgiveness, as seen in the call to forgive one another just as God forgives us. By doing so, we free ourselves from the chains of resentment and allow healing to begin. Jesus emphasizes love as the greatest commandment, reminding us that we must love our neighbors, which includes our family members, even those who have hurt us. When we choose to forgive, we not only reflect God’s character but also open the door for reconciliation. Just as the prodigal son was welcomed back with open arms (Luke 15:11-32), we too can extend grace to our estranged family. Trusting in God’s plan for our relationships encourages us to be patient and hopeful, knowing that He can restore what seems broken. Let us remember that our identity is rooted in Christ, who empowers us to love and forgive without limits.
